About

Established in 2019, Diamond Harbour Government Medical College & Hospital (DHGMCH) is a relatively new but promising government institution in West Bengal. Affiliated with the West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), it has quickly become a notable choice for medical aspirants in the state. As a newer college, DHGMCH is yet to feature in national ranking frameworks like NIRF, and its rankings for 2025 or 2026 are awaited as it continues to build its academic and infrastructural legacy. The primary academic offering at the institution is the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program. Admission to this highly sought-after course is strictly based on the performance in the NEET UG examination, followed by state and All-India quota counselling. Being a government college, the fee structure is highly subsidised. For the 2025-2026 academic session, the annual tuition fee for the MBBS course is expected to be around INR 9,000, although this is subject to revisions by the state government. When it comes to career prospects, medical colleges operate differently from engineering institutes. There isn't a traditional placement drive with company packages. Instead, all graduates undertake a mandatory one-year compulsory rotating residential internship with a stipend, providing them with essential hands-on experience. For the batches graduating around 2025 and 2026, the focus will be on this internship and preparing for the NEET PG entrance exam to pursue specialisation. Graduates typically go on to serve as medical officers in government hospitals or join the private healthcare sector.
