The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur is among the 31 NITs in India, established in 1960 as a Regional Engineering College in West Bengal. This autonomous institute operates under the Indian government. In the QS Ranking 2025, NIT Durgapur is placed at 1051 in the Asian University Rankings. The NIRF 2024 rankings put NIT Durgapur 44th among engineering institutions and 92nd overall. Furthermore, in the IIRF 2024 rankings, the institute ranks 50th in engineering, while The Week 2024 ranks it 25th in the same category. NIT Durgapur provides a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various departments in engineering, science, and other disciplines. The flagship courses at NIT Durgapur are the B.Tech and MBA programs. Admission to the B.Tech courses is based on JEE-Main ranks, with seats allocated through JoSAA Counselling. Alongside B.Tech, NIT Durgapur also offers M.Tech, MSc, MBA, and PhD programs in fields such as Engineering, Science, Architecture, Management, and Humanities.
