IIT Guwahati, founded in 1994, is a renowned government-run engineering university. Situated on the northern banks of the Brahmaputra River, it was ranked 7th in the Engineering category by NIRF in 2024. On the global stage, it holds the 355th rank by the QS World University Rankings in 2025. The institution offers more than 160 courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, with B.Tech being its flagship program. Additionally, the institute offers popular programs like M.Tech, M.Sc, M.Des, MBA, and Ph.D across varied fields including CSE, ECE, EEE, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and AI and Data Science. For its B.Tech programs, IIT Guwahati admits students based on JEE Advanced ranks, with seat allotments conducted by the CSAB through JoSAA Counseling, the closing cutoff for B.Tech in CSE is 699 in 2025. The average fee for the 4-year B.Tech course is INR 8 Lakhs. Admissions to other programs like M.Tech, M.Sc, M.Des, and Ph.D are based on national entrance exams such as GATE, IIT JAM, CEED, and NET-UG. Though the placement records for 2025 are not yet public, in 2024, the B.Tech departments secured the highest package of INR 2.05 crore per annum. In total, 1124 students across UG and PG programs were placed, with 260 companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Qualcomm, Apple, and JP Morgan participating in the placement drive.
