The Institute of Medical Science Varanasi, commonly known as IMS BHU, was founded in 1960 and is recognized by the Medical Council of India. In the 2025 rankings, Collegedunia positioned IMS BHU as the 28th best in the Medical category, while IIRF Rankings placed it at 9th. It stands as one of the six institutes under Banaras Hindu University. IMS BHU offers a range of educational programs, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral studies, focusing primarily on two degrees: MBBS and MD. The leading course is the five-year MBBS program, for which admission is conducted via NEET, followed by selection through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The total fee for pursuing MBBS at IMS BHU amounts to approximately INR 1.49 Lakhs. The IMS BHU Placement Report 2025 highlights that the median salary package offered was INR 18 LPA.
