About

The Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute (GCRI) in Ahmedabad is deeply committed to offering advanced cancer care at affordable rates to patients both from Gujarat and neighboring states. The Gujarat government plays a significant role in funding this institute. GCRI emphasizes supporting all patients with curable cancer and providing the best possible care to those with advanced stages. Their mission is to deliver top-notch diagnostic and therapeutic services to cancer patients, regardless of their background or financial status. Founded in 1972, GCRI is a unique collaboration between the state authorities, the Central Government, and various Non-Government Organizations. The institute is spearheaded by Chairperson Pankaj R. Patel. GCRI features five well-equipped laboratories, currently overseeing fifty-four research projects and nine clinical trials. It is located just 6 km from Mirzapur Road in Ahmedabad. Joining GCRI means being part of an institution that treated 299,393 outpatient cases and 246,672 inpatient admissions, signifying its ongoing dedication towards making advanced treatment accessible, especially for the underprivileged. GCRI encourages a scientific yet compassionate approach to cancer diagnosis and treatment, promoting curiosity, innovation, and creativity in research, which they aim to integrate into clinical practices. The institute not only focuses on technical and knowledge-intensive education but also extends hope, compassion, and respect to terminally ill patients. The research wing, known as the Cancer Biology Department, established in 1979, is a vital area of GCRI. It boasts cutting-edge genomic and proteomic facilities, with a team of senior scientists engaged in fundamental and translational cancer research, acknowledged both nationally and internationally through their publications.
