About

Established in 2014, Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University (HNBUMU) in Dehradun serves as the main governing body for medical and nursing education in Uttarakhand. Rather than being a single campus, it is an affiliating university, recognized by the UGC and the National Medical Commission (NMC), that sets the standards for all medical, dental, and paramedical colleges across the state. The university oversees admissions for a wide array of programs, with MBBS, BDS, MD/MS, and B.Sc. Nursing being the most sought-after. Admission to the undergraduate MBBS and BDS courses is strictly based on NEET-UG scores, followed by state-level counselling conducted by HNBUMU itself. For postgraduate seats, admissions are channelled through the NEET-PG examination. For the 2025 academic session, the projected annual tuition fee for an MBBS seat in a government-affiliated college is expected to be around ₹1.45 lakhs, though this figure varies significantly for private colleges and other courses. Career prospects for medical graduates are structured differently from typical placements. Looking ahead to 2026, MBBS graduates completing their course from affiliated colleges can expect to undertake a compulsory one-year rotating internship, with an anticipated monthly stipend ranging between ₹20,000 and ₹25,000 in government hospitals. Following the internship, doctors either prepare for postgraduate entrance exams like NEET-PG or join private and government healthcare facilities as medical officers, where starting salaries often begin in the range of ₹60,000 to ₹80,000 per month.
